An Abia-born cleric, Bishop Silas Eke, has criticised the performance of Governor Alex Otti, describing it as poor and unconvincing, saying the administration has little to show despite substantial financial inflows from the Federal Government.
Eke said Governor Otti has failed to justify what he described as the huge amount of money Abia State has received from the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that visible development across the state does not reflect the level of resources available to the administration.
According to the cleric, there are no major landmark projects in Abia that can be clearly attributed to the present government. He argued that while supporters of the governor often praise his performance, such views are driven more by emotion than facts on the ground.
“Governor Otti has received so much, but there is nothing serious to show for it. A few Abians are just being emotional. When you look critically, there are no landmark projects that justify the noise,” Eke said.
He compared Otti’s performance with that of governors in neighbouring states, citing the administrations of Peter Mbah, Hope Uzodimma, and Chukwuma Soludo, saying those states have recorded visible infrastructure and governance interventions within a similar period.
Eke also weighed in on the ongoing political disagreement between Governor Otti and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, declaring his full support for the position taken by the former governor.
According to him, Senator Kalu had never attacked Governor Otti until media aides of the Abia State Government, Ferdinand Ekeoma and Njoku Ukoha, allegedly began attacking and insulting the senator and members of his family.
“Senator Orji Kalu did not attack the governor initially. It was the governor’s aides who started insulting him and his family. So whatever Senator Kalu said or did afterwards is in order,” Eke stated.
The cleric further predicted that Governor Otti would not secure a second term in office, insisting that Abians would ultimately judge leaders based on performance rather than media narratives.
“Otti is a one-term governor. Governance is about results, not propaganda or emotions,” he added.
