
Former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, was on Friday, August 8, 2025, honoured with the prestigious Beacon of Hope for Mankind award at the Ezumezu Inyom Igbere 2025 August Conference.
The event, which brought together women from Igbere and beyond, was marked by celebration and appreciation for Senator Kalu’s continued support for community development and women empowerment.
Senator Kalu, who was unavoidably absent, was ably represented by a delegation of his aides led by the Senior Legislative Aide for Abia North, Barr. Victor Etie.
The team received the award on his behalf to loud applause from participants.
The women of Igbere also expressed gratitude for Senator Kalu’s generous donation of ₦2 million, the highest contribution recorded at the conference, aimed at supporting their developmental initiatives.
Senator Kalu is currently spearheading major business and educational projects in the Igbere community, including a cashew nut processing factory, a solar products manufacturing plant, a tricycle (“Keke”) assembly factory, the Orji Uzor Kalu University, and several other initiatives designed to create jobs and boost the local economy.
Leaders and participants hailed the former Abia State Governor for his commitment to the welfare of his people, describing the recognition as a testament to his impactful service.
“Indeed, the biggest recognition is when a prophet is honoured at home,” a community leader, Chief Philip Ekeoma remarked during the ceremony.
