Tomorrow, Sunday, 18th October, 2026, the Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District Unity Cup, sponsored by Senator (Dr.) Ekong Sampson, will come to an end at Eket township stadium, with Team Mbo taking on Team Eket by 4.pm.
The competition has received a major boost as His Excellency, Distinguished Senator (Dr.) Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District in the Senate, has confirmed his participation at the grand finale.
In a chat with the sponsor of the tournament, Senator Ekong Sampson, he disclosed that his colleague, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, a former two-term Governor of Abia State with a renowned background in sports development will be present during the closing ceremony.
Senator Ekong Sampson said the reason of bringing his friend and colleague from Abia State is because of his investments in sports during his tenure as Governor, adding that grassroots sports remain the bedrock of national development and peace.
He disclosed that Senator Kalu will be conferred with an honour on of “GRAND PATRON OF PILLAR OF SPORTS” during the event. The confirmation of Senator Kalu’s attendance adds national prominence to the tournament even as other top politicians are also expected to grace the event.
Ekong used the mdium to called on sons and daughters of Akwa Ibom South, and well meaning Akwa Ibomites to turn up for the grand finale.
