…OUK says APC Leaders, Governors, Lawmakers will deliver president; urges opposition to stop inciting Nigerians
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure a landslide victory in the 2027 presidential election without electoral malpractice, insisting that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has the political structure and grassroots support to deliver victory through legitimate means.
Kalu, who spoke with journalists on Tuesday, said the party’s campaign would rely heavily on grassroots mobilisation and the collective efforts of Governors, Senators, members of the House of Representatives, ministers and heads of government agencies rather than elaborate rallies and nationwide political tours.
The former Abia State governor, who is a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), clarified that he was not the Director-General of the campaign and would await the council’s inauguration, scheduled the next day, before following its official programme.
However, he maintained that political mobilisation had already begun at the grassroots, citing his recent engagements across Abia State as evidence of the party’s readiness for the forthcoming election.
“I have been in Abia for four weeks, going from one ABSIEC ward to the other, preaching Tinubu, myself and other people,” he said.
According to Kalu, the changing dynamics of political communication have made extensive rallies and the mobilisation of large crowds less indispensable, arguing that sustained engagement with voters at the ward and community levels could deliver better results.
He suggested that the APC could effectively prosecute its campaign through its established political structures, with elected officials and other party stakeholders taking the president’s message directly to the people.
Kalu also urged Nigerians to acknowledge what he described as the Tinubu administration’s efforts to stabilize the economy and address the country’s economic challenges, while expressing optimism that the benefits of government policies would increasingly reach ordinary citizens.
He further acknowledged the security challenges confronting the country, particularly insecurity and insurgency, but expressed confidence that the government would overcome them.
The former Governor argued that the president did not necessarily need to embark on extensive nationwide campaign tours, insisting that party leaders and elected representatives could shoulder the responsibility of securing electoral support for him.
“I don’t think the era of Presidents running around all over the country is necessary now. It is not necessary. We are field workers and we can do the job for him,” Kalu said.
He added that the backing of APC governors had strengthened his confidence in the party’s electoral prospects, expressing satisfaction with what he described as the growing unity behind Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Kalu, however, drew a clear line between electoral victory and malpractice, insisting that the president could win convincingly without rigging.
“I never supported rigging. Nobody is going to rig election,” he declared, while urging opposition parties to refrain from what he described as attempts to incite Nigerians.
He also defended Tinubu’s disposition towards political opponents, arguing that insulting the opposition was inconsistent with the president’s character and assuring that the campaign would operate within the rules established by the relevant electoral authorities.
“We will play the game according to the rules set up by the agencies that handle election,” he said.
Kalu’s remarks signal the APC’s proposed emphasis on grassroots mobilisation and coordinated political engagement ahead of the 2027 general election, as the ruling party prepares to consolidate its support base and make its case to voters across the country.
While expressing confidence in a decisive victory for Tinubu, the international business mogul maintained that the election should be won through legitimate political organisation and the ballot, rather than electoral manipulation.
