A youth group without provocation suddenly sprang up, declared a sitting Senator “a Persona non grata” and went further to ban his movement and entry into parts of his senatorial district in a widely publicized letter that went viral on social media and became subject of Radio commentary with known individuals acting as leaders group and signatories/authors of the repugnant letter.
The Council of Monarchs in Ohafia quickly rose to the occasion and refuted the said toxic letter as being a figment of imagination of the authors and never represented to official position of ndi Ohafia Udumeze. They also considered the letter an aberration and infringement on the constitutional rights, freedom and privileges of the Senator.
In response to this obvious overreach by the youth organization, the Senator made a formal complaint through a petition to the police authorities to investigate the reasons why he should be banned by the group from moving freely in Ohafia as a Nigerian. This was a clear affront to the rule of law and inherent constitutional freedom that threatens the security and well being of the Senator.
The police authorities in a measured effort to maintain orderliness and public peace extended invitation to meet and listen to the purported grievances of the signatories to the letter writing against the Senator; and boom, hell was let loose. A mammoth crowd of young men and women were from Ohafia were mobilized and they stormed the zone 9 police police headquarters in umuahia in their numbers chanting and invoking death on the Senator to the chagrin of the police authorities.
It is laughable that a Senatorial Election Tribunal claim by a defendant counsel in 2024 that IPOB activities were responsible for the failure to conduct the Senatorial election in some electoral wards in Abiriba, Ohafia, Nkporo, Abam, Arochukwu has been twisted in 2026 ( 3 years after) by desperate politicians, insisting that the Senator declared Ohafia as an IPOB enclave and therefore should lose his constitutional rights and freedom of movement in & out of Ohafia ; and should cease to enter into their the community from now henceforth.
This sounds so cheap especially coming from a clan that prides as the most educated band of people in Sub Saharan Africa.
How do we even manage this despicable optics . A young and vibrant member of the Youth Body Comrade Igwe Akuma was gunned down and murdered in cold blood on 2nd January 2026 in Ohafia yet the Youth Body turned blind eyes, never protested and watched the assailants move freely in Ohafia. The group instead was induced in over dose to start hunting and threatening the life of a Senator over a claim made by a defense Counsel in a 2023 Election Petition Tribunal. We can only blame this on complacency , gross misplacement of priority and excessive indulgence in toxic politics. This is strange to Ohafia robust political culture.
As it’s usually said “The onus of proof lies on Whosoever that alleges” . Why are the authors of the letter against the Senator afraid of appearing and defending their actions before the Law Enforcement Agency (Police) or do they think that mob mentality will scare the police and allow the threat against the Distinguished senator to slide. No sane person would treat such public threat with levity. The law obviously is not a respecter of any person so, let the chants continue but obviously the law must take it’s full course.
And for those sponsoring the macabre dance of shame and stocking the fire, the Senator is rooted and not someone you can run over with cheap blackmail. Go get your nomination and become a Party candidate first before the “roforofo” fight that can only sap your energy before the real political combat starts.
Abia North Senatorial election does not start and end in Ohafia. And if you ban the Senator from Ohafia, Bende people will ban your sponsor and would-be candidate from Igbere.
Instead of presenting a credible alternative to the senator following clearly spelt out procedure and rules of engagement , you have rather resorted to name- calling and adopting obsolete formats fraught with tendencies to heighten tension, breed crisis and incubate violence.
We wait to study the political calculus that would make a particular Party cede her Senatorial and House of Representatives Flag bearers to Ohafia along side the Deputy Governorship ticket in 2027 amidst growing concerns and clamor for fairness in the distribution of elective political offices as a panacea for consensus building.
At the end, the conspirators would have learnt in hard ways the bitter lessons of struggling for the mat without owing a land.
OUK is rather your nightmare and no mischief maker will stop him through obnoxious antics disguised as political aspirations.
