…Former Governor Hosts Crucial Strategy Meeting in Igbere as Political Realignment Gathers Steam Ahead of General Elections.
As political activities intensify across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Abia State Governor and Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has convened a high-powered strategic stakeholders’ meeting at his country home in Igbere, bringing together the tripartite alliance of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the OUK Movement, and the Reality Organisation Worldwide in what political observers describe as a significant show of force.
The meeting, which was held at the sprawling country residence of the influential international business mogul, followed what the former Governor described as his “usual practice” of consulting widely with critical stakeholders before major electoral cycles. This latest convocation marks yet another in a series of strategic engagements aimed at consolidating the political architecture of the APC in Abia State ahead of the 2027 polls.
The former 9th Senate Chief Whip revealed that the choice of Igbere as the venue held deep symbolic significance, representing his commitment to grassroots politics and his determination to build the party’s electoral fortunes from the ward level upward. The meeting, which lasted several hours, brought together the three critical pillars of Kalu’s political structure in the state.
Senator Kalu described the OUK Movement and the Reality Organisation as “among the most formidable political support networks in our dear state,” acknowledging the immense grassroots reach and mobilisation capacity of these structures. The meeting, according to Kalu, provided an invaluable opportunity to further strengthen the shared resolve and collective strategy required for the political tasks that lie ahead.
The OUK Movement, named after Kalu’s initials, has remained one of the most enduring political structures in Abia politics, surviving multiple electoral cycles and maintaining its relevance across the state’s 17 local government areas. Similarly, the Reality Organisation has built a reputation for effective grassroots mobilisation and voter education, making the convergence of these forces with the official APC structure a formidable political combination.
The Chairman Senate Committee on South East Development Commission (SEDC), revealed that deliberations at the strategic meeting focused extensively on motivating support groups to remain steadfast and committed to the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. This commitment, Kalu emphasized, must extend beyond presidential politics to encompass working in unity with every organ of the APC to secure victory for all party candidates contesting various positions in the general elections.
Kalu’s endorsement of President Tinubu’s re-election bid comes as no surprise to political watchers who have followed the senator’s strong support for the Tinubu administration since its inception. The former governor has consistently aligned himself with the president’s policy direction and has been at the forefront of mobilizing southeast support for the APC-led federal government.
In his address to the gathering, Kalu emphasized the importance of three critical pillars for political success as unity, discipline, and sustained grassroots mobilisation. He argued that these elements remain non-negotiable requirements for any political movement seeking to achieve electoral victory in Nigeria’s increasingly competitive political environment.
”When we stand together with a common purpose, victory becomes inevitable,” Kalu declared to the gathering of party leaders and grassroots mobilizers, which shows his confidence in the political machinery being assembled ahead of the 2027 elections. The statement, which drew applause from the mammoth crowd that attended, reflected Kalu’s belief in the power of collective action and shared political vision.
The meeting was well attended by a distinguished array of party stakeholders, demonstrating the broad-based support Kalu commands within the Abia APC structure and beyond. Notable among the attendees was the APC State Secretary, Tohukwu Avajah, whose presence signified the official party apparatus’s alignment with Kalu’s political project. The State Woman Leader, Cecilia Erondu, also attended, bringing the crucial women’s wing of the party into strategic conversations.
Honourable Ifeanyi Ogbonna, a key stakeholder in Abia politics, was present at the deliberations, contributing his wealth of political experience to the discussions. Perhaps most significantly, the former Abia State House of Assembly Speaker, who now serves as Abia State Chairman of the City Boy Movement, Hon. Chinedu Orji, AKA Ikuku, joined the meeting, bringing with him the considerable influence of the youth-focused political organisation.
Several other distinguished state, local government, and grassroots stakeholders of the party also graced the occasion, transforming the meeting into what one attendee described as “a family reunion of progressive forces in Abia politics.” The wide representation from across the state’s political spectrum indicated the growing consolidation of pro-Tinubu forces in the southeast.
Senator Kalu expressed sincere appreciation for the presence and valuable contributions of all the notable stakeholders who joined the meeting. The former governor acknowledged that the quality of deliberations and the commitment displayed by attendees reinforced his confidence in the party’s ability to achieve its electoral objectives in 2027.
Kalu specifically thanked the party leaders who travelled from various parts of the state to participate in the strategic session, noting that such sacrifice and dedication formed the bedrock of successful political movements. He urged all stakeholders to carry the spirit of the meeting back to their respective domains and to continue the work of grassroots sensitization and mobilization.
As the meeting drew to a close, participants issued a communiqué reaffirming their collective commitment to strengthening APC in Abia State and advancing the Renewed Hope agenda of the Tinubu administration. The stakeholders pledged to work tirelessly to ensure that the party’s message of hope and transformation resonates with voters across the state.
Together, the tripartite alliance of APC, OUK Movement, and Reality Organisation declared themselves “focused and committed to strengthening the APC and advancing the Renewed Hope agenda for the benefit of our people and the future of Nigeria.” This collective declaration, endorsed by all present, sets the stage for what promises to be an intensive period of political activity leading to the 2027 general elections.
It is worthy to note that the Igbere meeting represents a significant milestone in the early political realignments taking shape ahead of 2027. With Kalu consolidating his formidable political structures behind President Tinubu’s re-election, the APC in Abia State appears positioned to mount its most competitive challenge yet in a state traditionally dominated by opposition parties.
The coming months will reveal how effectively the tripartite alliance translates the Igbere declarations into grassroots mobilization and eventual voter turnout when Nigerians go to the polls in 2027. Kalu’s intentional leadership in collaboration with his allies has signaled their intention to fight for every vote in Abia State to make a monumental statement in the general elections come 2027.
